The quartet of Victor Ezeh, Habeeb Aliu, Nifemi Kuti and Sam Timi of Beavers Elite have emerged as the national champions of the Redbull Half Court basketball championship held at The Palms, Lekki over the weekend.
The National finals started off with the quarterfinals featuring the 8 teams from the 4 qualifiers across the country. Four teams were knocked out each from the four regions, leaving Wildcats, Brave Heart, Beavers Elite, and 2021 champions, Kingsmen straight to the semi-finals.
Beavers Elite had the most exhilarating semi finals as the score was tied at the end of the regular 10 mins, leading to a first-to-two-points tiebreaker - the only one in the tournament so far, to determine the winner.
Beavers Elite also played a tough finals against the Wildcats from Abuja, as both teams delivered an intense spectacle and came to a very close score of 12 – 11 points in favor of Beavers Elite.
Beavers Elite would go alongside last year’s champions Nile University Spartans to represent Nigeria at the World championship in Serbia.
